Kildare Catholic College is proud to present this wonderful musical in 2019. With a cast of over 140 students and a band of 21 students, this will be a performance full of bright colours, infectious music, vibrant dance, great voices and some very funny moments.
The time is 1962. The place is Baltimore, Maryland. The main character is pleasantly plump Tracy Turnblad, a teenager with a great hairdo and a big dream to one day dance on the Corny Collins Show. When she gets put in detention with the African-American students in the school, they teach her some of their dance moves, and her new found groove wins her a spot on Corny’s show.
With her new-found popularity, Tracy attempts to bring about racial integration on the television show. With the help of her supportive parents, her heartthrob crush Link Larkin, her best friend Penny and her new friends Seaweed and Motormouth Maybelle, she faces off against the evil but powerful producer Velma Von Tussle and her nasty daughter Amber.
